We are continuing our ‘Meet the Vendors’ blog series where we introduce you to one of our wonderful My Mystic Wedding Preferred Vendors, and today we’re chatting with Erin from Nob Hill Jane®. Erin specializes in wedding calligraphy and although you may think that calligraphy is just for envelopes, Erin offers an endless variety of items for your big day from start to finish. We love following her on Instagram and are so excited to hear more about her, her business, and see photos of her beautiful work!

Can you tell us a bit about your business and what you do?
I am the owner of Nob Hill Jane®, a Cheshire, Connecticut based calligraphy studio specializing in modern calligraphy and hand lettered custom signage. Nob Hill Jane® offers a wide array of services including envelope addressing, place cards, table numbers and favor tags, as well as hand lettered custom “day of” signage like welcome signs, seating charts, menu boards and bar signage. Working with all types of media such as acrylic, mirrors, wood and lots more, Nob Hill Jane® has couples covered from engagement to the wedding day.

How and when did you start Nob Hill Jane®?
I discovered calligraphy after taking a beginner dip pen calligraphy lesson from a friend, and became immediately obsessed with all things lettering. What started out as a hobby quickly turned into a business that I ran while I split my time between practicing law and raising two young boys with my husband. In 2018, I decided to stop practicing law after fifteen years and go all in with Nob Hill Jane®. I took the proverbial “leap of faith” as they say, and I haven’t looked back. One the best decisions I’ve ever made! Nob Hill Jane® is now a full-service calligraphy studio.

What do you love most about being a calligrapher?
The creativity & versatility! There are so many different ways to letter the same word, and I just love the creative process of finding the perfect style for a particular event. The style of lettering used helps convey the desired mood and enhances the overall feel – when properly done, hand lettered pieces bring a cohesive and custom look to your wedding. Those seemingly small details really do make a big impact. I also love meeting couples and hearing their stories because each one is special and unique. I enjoy finding ways to incorporate personal touches into the pieces I create, whether it’s curating a set of vintage stamps for invitation envelopes that relates to where they met, or including a lyric from a favorite song in some of the “day of” signage. It’s all about those personal & custom details!

What is the last book you read?
“The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah. Such a good book!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Staying active and healthy is really important to me – I love to wake up early and get my workout in, and then enjoy a good cup of coffee and breakfast with my family. I also really enjoy baking, volunteering at my boys’ school and going on long walks with our Labrador puppy, Lucy.

What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
I’m a licensed attorney. I worked for a law firm in Hartford, CT for fifteen years practicing commercial and intellectual property law before becoming a full-time calligrapher! Love what you do and do what you love!
