Meet the Vendors: Boston Common Band
Each week we are introducing you to our wonderful MMW Preferred Vendors in our ‘Meet the Vendors’ blog series, and this week we are getting to know one of our favorite wedding bands, Boston Common Band.
Boston Common Band provides wedding entertainment from cocktail hour to dinner hour, and of course, a non-stop dance party all night long. They have received an unprecedented string of consecutive “Best of Boston” awards for the past 10+ years, as well as prestigious curated awards from Boston Magazine, Style Me Pretty, The Improper Bostonian, and more.
In addition to being an incredible wedding band, they also provide a crystal-clear sound system tuned specifically to your venue, fully programmed LED lighting to match the mood of each song and enhance the party atmosphere, plus online planning services synchronized with your wedding coordination team.
To get to know them better, we asked Jonathan Wiegratz, their Director of Events and drummer, a few business and personal questions:
How and when did Boston Common Band start?
Boston Common Band started off in 2006 as a way to modernize the notion of what you think of when you hear the term "wedding band." We were a friend group of musicians from Berklee College of Music, and had played a number of events with our professors’ wedding bands, and quickly realized that the song choices being played were somewhat dated. We emphasize the importance of knowing the "wedding band set list" of 2000, will most certainly not be current or work for today. Each year, we look at our song list from the previous season and remove the songs that have reached their "shelf life" and rotate in the current songs of the summer, as well as some of those forgotten throwbacks from yesteryear, which have come back around.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
At the start of every dance party and within the first few measures of the first song, watching everyone rush the dance floor!
What are the top three places on your travel bucket list?
Ahhh -- personal questions! I'm so used to speaking about and for our business, it's a rare treat to speak personally. There are SO many amazing places on the blue marble we call home. World travel is also a personal passion, and something that I continue pushing myself to explore new places.
1) French / Italian Riviera -- I checked this off a couple years ago. It's as incredible as you've been led to believe. The absolute "cannot miss" place, is the town of Eze, France. It's a medieval village carved into the hillside, located halfway between Nice and Monaco.
2) The Philippines -- The YouTube channel, Kara and Nate, is a major source of inspiration and their latest set of videos filmed there has quite easily vaulted the Philippines into the bucket list.
3) Malta -- Could it be the "Nantucket" of the Mediterranean?
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Maybe it's a tad cliche, but I have an avid passion for European sports cars. On the open weekend days in the summer, I enjoy dropping-the-top and going for a nice country drive. Beyond that, I've been developing a bit of a videography hobby as of late. Stay tuned for further developments. ;)
What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
I'm a workaholic... most people don't know that I also have a full-time 9 to 5 job in Boston's Back Bay working in IT Collaboration, specifically Telecom + Video Conferencing infrastructure, and the administration of it. It's truly a yin-yang balance to my creative, musician side.
Thank you so much for sharing, Jonathan! Visit Boston Common Band’s website, Instagram and Facebook pages to learn more about them, view their song list, watch videos of weddings and other events, and to contact them about your wedding.
