Frequently Asked Questions About Postponing Your Wedding
If you are planning a spring or summer wedding you likely have many questions about if you should postpone or cancel your wedding, how to proceed with that decision and work with your vendors, and how that might change the vision you have for your wedding day. So today one of our fabulous florists, Yumiko from Hana Floral Design, is here to answer the most frequently asked questions she has been receiving from engaged couples.
Should we cancel our 2020 wedding?
"Postpone don't cancel" is the motto for all of us in the wedding industry! Even if it's not a Saturday, that Friday or Sunday wedding will still be gorgeous! Think of off-peak months too, such as November. It's a beautiful time to get married and your vendors usually have a lot more flexibility!
If we plan to postpone, what should we do?
If you have a planner, they will reach out to all of your vendors and the venue to get the best available dates. If you don't, then be sure to reach out to your venue first to check on availability, then reach out to the rest of your vendor team with those dates. This way, we can all work together to try to fulfill your new date.
Will flowers and supplies be affected?
This is new territory for all of us. As we continue to keep track of how this is affecting the entire world, we do expect there to be some delays in supplies as well as a need to be flexible with the types of flowers. Trust the florist you booked and allow them to make the appropriate substitutions as necessary.
What does this mean for 2021 dates?
Just as in any normal wedding season, the most popular months across the board are September and June. These months will book fast. Some days might be taken already for a 2020 bride, so if you are planning for a 2021 wedding, begin the search for your favorite vendors, especially for September and June.
Can I get my deposit back if I have to cancel or reschedule?
A deposit is your investment in your vendor. This ensures the wedding date is yours. Every vendor has their own policy with regard to deposits but most vendors are more than happy to use your deposit toward a new date.
What happens if one of my vendors is unavailable on my new date?
Firstly, give all of your vendors the chance to reschedule. This is the dream team you built, so give them an opportunity first by offering more than one new date if possible. And if there is someone on your vendor team that is unavailable, they will likely refer a colleague who might be.
Can I hold two dates if I have to reschedule?
This answer will vary among vendors, but yes you can in our case. We have successfully rescheduled all of ours but two, and some of our brides are holding a date in 2020 as well as 2021. This is not a common practice and if you are requesting to hold a new 2021 date, your vendor may require an additional deposit, keeping in mind they are forfeiting income by holding another day for you.
